"Every child has the right to learn, explore, and grow in a safe and protected digital environment"
KiddieEdu Technologies Limited ("KiddieEdu") is unwavering in its commitment to providing the safest possible online learning environment for children. As Africa's Safest Online Learning Platform for children aged 6–14 years, child safety is not merely a compliance requirement — it is the foundational principle upon which our entire operation is built.
Policy Statement: KiddieEdu is committed to:
This Policy applies to all Learners, Parents, KiddieEdu employees, instructors, contractors, and third-party service providers. In all decisions, the best interests of the child shall be the primary consideration, in accordance with Section 1 of the Child's Rights Act, 2003.
KiddieEdu's child safety framework is built upon the following legislative foundation:
KiddieEdu also aligns with international standards including the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child, and UNICEF Guidelines on Child Online Protection.
KiddieEdu operates under the following core child safety principles:
The Platform provides differentiated experiences for three age sub-groups:
| Age Group | Design Tier | Key Safety Features |
|---|---|---|
| 6–8 years (Early Years) | Foundation | Maximum parental supervision, simplified interface, no free-text communication, pre-moderated content only, session time limits enforced |
| 9–11 years (Middle Years) | Intermediate | Guided independence with oversight, moderated text (pre-set phrases), basic digital literacy lessons, configurable time limits |
| 12–14 years (Upper Years) | Advanced | Increased autonomy with guardrails, moderated free-text, critical thinking modules, mentorship with vetted educators, parent-configurable controls |
All Platform content must meet the following standards: clear educational value, age-appropriateness, cultural sensitivity, factual accuracy, no commercial content, no violence or distressing imagery, and no sexual content of any kind.
Before any content is published, it undergoes a multi-stage review: automated AI screening → educational review → child safety specialist review → age-appropriateness tagging → final approval.
KiddieEdu employs a four-layer content moderation system:
Strictly prohibited content includes: Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), grooming content, violence and graphic material, hate speech, bullying and harassment, sharing of personal information about minors, off-platform solicitation, and commercial advertising.
Detection of CSAM results in immediate account termination and law enforcement notification with no exceptions.
Pre-class: Only vetted instructors may conduct live classes. Classes are limited to 20 Learners. Parents receive advance notification with the instructor's name and topic. Learners enter a waiting room and are admitted only after identity verification.
During class: All sessions are recorded. Classes with 10+ Learners have a second moderator. Private direct messages between Learners and instructors are not permitted. Only instructors may share their screen. Instructors have one-click capability to remove any participant. Real-time AI monitors audio and chat.
Post-class: Recordings are reviewed by the safety team within 24 hours. Parents may request access to their child's class recordings. Recordings are retained for 30 days then deleted unless flagged for investigation.
All communications on the Platform are controlled and monitored. Key rules:
Children aged 6–8 have no free-text communication — pre-set emojis and reactions only. Ages 9–11 use pre-set phrases and moderated free-text in classroom contexts only. Ages 12–14 use moderated free-text with real-time AI and post-hoc human review.
Peer interactions for older age groups are limited to structured educational project templates, visible to instructors and moderators at all times.
Pre-engagement vetting includes: government-issued photo ID verification, proof of qualifications, two professional references, a valid Police Clearance Certificate (less than 6 months old), sex offender registry check, employment history verification, and social media screening.
Mandatory child safety training covering child protection principles, recognition of abuse signs, appropriate professional boundaries, online grooming awareness, and data protection requirements must be completed before any instructor accesses the Platform.
New instructors serve a 3-month probationary period with co-moderated classes, enhanced communication review, and weekly safety reviews.
Ongoing conduct requirements: instructors must never request personal contact information from Learners, initiate private communication outside Platform channels, meet Learners outside scheduled sessions, or share their personal information with Learners. Refresher child safety training is required every 6 months.
Breach consequences: immediate suspension, investigation, permanent termination if allegations are substantiated, law enforcement referral for criminal conduct, and reporting to relevant professional bodies.
The Parent Dashboard provides real-time visibility into learning activity, communication summaries, live class history, content accessed, assessment results, and safety alerts.
Configurable parental controls include: screen time limits, schedule restrictions, live class permissions (requiring parental approval per session), peer interaction toggle, content filter level (Strict/Standard), and notification preferences.
Parents receive weekly learning summaries, monthly detailed progress reports, immediate alerts for safety events, and quarterly comprehensive reviews. A co-viewing mode is available for Learners aged 6–8.
